Move2Beruf 2026 – Cooperation instead of competition
On 11 February 2026, companies from Herne and Bochum opened their doors to school students for the action day “Move2Beruf”. Around 2,000 young people used the chance to get a first-hand look at apprenticeships and to talk in person with trainers and apprentices. “Move2Beruf” took place for the third time this year – for the first time with companies from Bochum taking part.
The young people booked “time slots” with the companies and made their own way there. Schools and teachers who had prepared the day supported them. Mayor Dr. Frank Dudda (Herne) and Jörg Lukat (Bochum) visited the event together with other labour-market stakeholders to see the successful format for themselves. Dr. Frank Dudda underlined how important the format is for good careers guidance: “Move2Beruf literally gets school students moving and takes them straight into companies, and so makes it easier for them to make a considered decision for an apprenticeship or a degree.” Dr. Dirk Drenk, managing director of Herne Business, is pleased with the success: the third edition of ‘Move2Beruf’ is now also running in Bochum. That shows the concept really helps young people find the right occupation.
The companies not only presented their apprenticeships, but also gave insights into career paths, working conditions and further-training options.
The organisers stressed that early practical insights help young people make well-founded decisions, support their start in working life and secure skilled workers for the region in the long term. With “Move2Beruf”, school students get a real look at the world of work, parents see directly what opportunities are open to their children, and companies find motivated young talent – a win-win for everyone.
